Better Today Than Yesterday
I know a lot of people who live by the mantra that they want to be better today than they were yesterday.
Not me. And here's why:
Not every day is the same.
Some days it's pretty easy to be my best self because of the circumstances of the day.
Other days - Heaven help me!
Everything seems to conspire against me showing up in my normal awesomeness.
And I don't think this says anything about my character or my commitment to growth.
What it does say, is that some days are harder than others.
And when I can give myself grace to have a rough day, and to show up my best for this rough day, even though it may not be better than I showed up yesterday, I'm making some incredible headway and I'm not beating myself up for not being as great today as I was yesterday.
God's plan for us coming to earth is centered around our agency to choose and our Savior, Jesus Christ.
And Christ's life is centered around His Atonement for our sins.
We are here on earth to make messes, to make lots of mistakes, and to have days when we don't do very well.Ā
And then, to use the Atonement of Christ to reevaluate, to refocus, and to rededicate.
These timesĀ offer us some of our greatest growth.
These are the times when we are fulfilling God's plan for us and we become better versions of ourselves.
Like an arrow in a bow, we need to be pulled backwards in order to fly forwards.
So, if today is a rough day and you're not better than yesterday, it's okay.
In fact, it's better than okay.
It's part of God's plan for you.
It's part of our human experience.
Double down on the grace and use this day to move yourself forward.
